Information as of V2.11 of the IC-7800 software.
I have connected the 7800 to a switch on the local LAN.
The network implementation fails to include provisions for specification of a default gateway. Without this it is impossible to route traffic outside of the LAN. This certainly decreases the versatility of the network connection since you won't be able to talk to the 7800 from outside the local LAN.
Upon telnet connection you get a welcoming banner "Welcome to the IC-7800". And an IC-7800 prompt.
From the telnet connection, the following commands appear to be recognized:
- password xxxx -- doesn't matter what xxxx is. This probably does something I don't want done but whatever. Or perhaps if I had the administrator password I could discover lots of things.
- password ? -- produces a weird list of passwords. May be that these are Japanese characters?
- exit -- disconnects from telnet
- restart -- causes the 7800 screen to go blank. Front panel on/off is ignored. Have to reset 7800 by turning off power on the back of the unit.
- ver -- returns "IC-7800:Ver." Presumably this will be a version number command some day.
I have run a port scanner on the radio and found the following IP types recognized:
- icmp
- tcp
- udp
These are not a big surprise since they are pretty basic. I then scanned for tcp and udp ports that were recognized and attempted to connect. The following were found:
- telnet -- tcp port 23 -- this is also not a big surprise since I have been able to have telnet sessions with the radio.
- pop3 -- tcp port 110 -- this is a port for the pop3 mail pickup service. This is a bit more of a surprise as being able to pick up mail from the radio is an interesting concept.
- smtp -- tcp port 25 -- this is the simple mail handler/forwarder. Disconnects when anything sent. This is not normal.
No UDP ports responded.
I suspect that if I knew the password to enter for the administrator privileges on the radio that I would discover the ability to enable several more services. We'll see.
